SSUCHY PARTNERS MEETING IN BERGAMO – UPDATE AFTER 2 YEARS OF WORK

Two years after the project launch, the European partners of the consortium met in Bergamo to review the results of their work

This event was the opportunity for the consortium to present all the results of their work with great progress noticed on fractionation of lignocellulose, post-functionalization of copolymers by tandem catalysis, thermosets preparation and thermoplastics synthesis. Furthermore, implementation of European hemp, preparation of bio-based composites and interesting prototypes of bio-based scooter and cockpit dashboards have been made.

Visit of Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale premises

Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale has welcomed all SSUCHY partners for this meeting and offered a visit of their plant and lab. The opportunity for the partners to see all their know-how and expertise for the manufacturing of flax and hemp rovings and yarns, to provide the SSUCHY consortium a plant fibre reinforcement which features are ideal for the development of bio-based composite products and traceability is ensured.

Test of prototypes to mow the plants in aligned swath by Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore

The hemp fields, cultivated in Italy in the framework of the SSUCHY project by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in 2019, has been harvested to obtain swaths of aligned stems. Two similar prototypes were tested to mow the plants in aligned swath. The BCS prototype, selected for its efficiency, was used to harvest 1 hectare of hemp. In the process, the stems stay in the field (retting step) to facilitate the separation of the bast fibres from the woody part (shives). The plants will be cut in 1-meter stem portions using a second prototype, so that they can be fed in the flax scutching line belonging to Terre de Lin (France).
